Why Insure a VTT, Snowmobile or Motocross?
If you own an off-road vehicle, you need to choose your coverage well. Keep in mind that the Société d’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) receives no insurance premium on off-road vehicle licence plate fees — meaning that it generally provides no compensation for injuries sustained in accidents involving off-road vehicles. Barring a few exceptions, you need private insurance to cover your third-party liability (i.e. to provide compensation for injuries caused to others). And if you’re the one who’s injured, you need adequate coverage for that, too.
Note that, if you take out a loan to buy an off-road vehicle, the creditor will likely require proof of insurance before letting you drive off with your purchase.
